The Illusion of Separation
What if the belief that you are separate is simply your mind looking in the wrong direction? Conditioned to see separation, it searches for evidence to confirm it—but what if the belief itself is false?
What if, instead of clinging to the thought of separateness or even the thought of unity, you set them both aside and tested what is right in front of you? What would you find?
Truth is rarely absolute. Not this, not that, but something in between—contradicting neither, yet not necessarily one or the other. Can you hold that paradox?
Are you separate from your liver or your heart? Is a cell separate from its nucleus or mitochondria? Trillions of cells form a body, each its own entity, yet inseparable from the whole. The cells of the liver are the liver, and when the liver dies, so do they. To speak of them as separate is to misunderstand their nature.
So it is with humans and the Earth. If humans emerged from the Earth, as fingernails grow from a mammal, then are we not one and the same? A fingernail is distinct, yet inseparable from the body. The Earth can survive without humans, just as a mammal can survive without fingernails—but both exist for a purpose shaped by adaptation. Does a fingernail understand its purpose? No, it simply is—just like the trees, the rivers, and the rocks. Do humans truly understand their purpose?
To test the phrase that, “We are created in the image of God”, and the Bible (and other texts) say that God is love, then our purpose is to live from love. In deep meditation, one can test that when the mind settles, what is left is just a pure and clear sense of being. Unobstructed by the belief in thoughts and relying on nothing but itself, that feeling of pure being expresses itself as such states of love, peace, and joy. It feels like coming home. It’s what we are all lusting after but believing it’s somewhere outside ourselves.
To tap into that state of pure beingness, it becomes apparent that it’s love itself that directs each of us toward our unique expression in this world; it’s our purpose. Yet humans have become masters of fear and anger, living by its dictates instead. In a world that runs on fear, choosing love can feel impossible, even dangerous.
But it’s time to relinquish our allegiance to fear and the illusion of separation. Isn’t that what you truly want? To feel safe, at peace, connected, and in love? That wholeness is already within you—requiring nothing to attain, no one to impress.
When you cease focusing your attention on fear and turn the other way, you become a rebel in a world gone insane. To recognize that fear and anger can only create in their image, love becomes the only desirable answer available.
Stop grasping at the world of form to give you lasting happiness. It is like building a kingdom out of sand—just when you think you have it, it slips through your fingers. This world is a dream world, and form has nothing real to offer. The only thing of true and lasting value is the love that flows from the wellspring within you.
When you recognize that the only thing worth investing in is living from love itself, you begin to see the gift that you are. Letting go of the fearful beliefs that keep you feeling separate, you will find clarity in an upside-down world. As fear fades, reality begins to turn right-side up, and you see how the separate and scary world you once knew was built on illusion.
I invite you to test this for yourself. Step back from the fearful existence you once believed was reality and into a new way of being—a more loving one that has been waiting for you all along.
